Biniali is a village or llogaret located in the municipality of Sencelles that grew until the wine crisis of the end of the 19th century caused its decline.
The lands of Biniali were part of the Arab farmstead of Bânû Alî, from which the current place name comes from. Located to the west of Sencelles, its occupation was consolidated thanks to agricultural activity until the phylloxera crisis in the 19th century precipitated the decline of this small village.
However, in prehistoric times there is already evidence of human presence in the area, and up to eight archaeological sites have been documented. Among them, the Cova Monja stands out, with important Talayotic burials.
The urban layout took shape at the end of the 17th century and beginning of the 18th century, when the first oratory was requested (1671). Most of the buildings are two-storey houses of traditional architecture from this period, although there are also some larger mansions.
Among the most outstanding buildings are the parish church of Sant Cristòfol, the rectory, the houses of Can Grau, Sa Clastra and Son Raió, and a small cemetery. Other outstanding heritage elements are the Pou de Biniali, the monument to the Immaculada Concepció and the flour mill of Can Xisco or Cas Moliner. Because of its obvious heritage values, Biniali has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of Historic Site.
